“Improving the National Response to HIV/AIDS”

Date: May 26-27, 2011
Location:      Yakut Ball Room at Larespark Hotel, Taksim - Istanbul.
Organiser: Positive Living Association.
Supporters: European Commission European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and Technical Assistance for Civil Society Organisations (TACSO).
Theme: The main theme of the Conference is "Improving National Response to HIV/AIDS.”
Scope: “International Conference on HIV/AIDS in Istanbul - 2011” will address contemporary issues on the HIV/AIDS pandemic and national response strategies in the control of pandemic and providing sufficient support for the people living with HIV (PLHIV). The conference will act as a platform for sharing knowledge and experience in HIV/AIDS related policies and laws. In addition, conference aims to raise awareness about the needed change in the national response of Turkey to HIV/AIDS pandemic.
“International Conference on HIV/AIDS in Istanbul-2011” is organised in the framework of a 15-month long project, "Raising awareness of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), governmental organisations (GOs), and the members of the Parliament (MPs) regarding human rights of PLHIV and improving national response to HIV/AIDS".

Objectives:

  • To facilitate the exchange of knowledge, good practices and research findings among law and public health experts, governmental and non-governmental stakeholders;
  • To strengthen collaboration and networking between governmental organizations, civil society partners, and international institutions;
  • To provide people with HIV, policy makers, health practitioners, and others with a possibility a platform to interact with each other.
  • To discuss national response strategies, especially on legal framework and law to HIV/AIDS in different countries and propose a comprehensive national response in Turkey.
Participation: The policy makers, counsellors, scholars, lawyers, public health practitioners, state officers, representatives of civil society organisations, the people living with HIV, the activist community and the general public .
Languages: Bilingual, English-Turkish, simultaneous translation provided.
